Tetraploa
Phonetic: Teh-truh-ploh-uh
Tetraploa lacks a known sexual state (Fungi Imperfecti). This fungus is often found in subtropical to tropical regions on grasses, and on leaf bases and stems. This genus is an infrequent etiological agent of phaeohyphomycosis (cutaneous and subcutaneous infections caused by dematiaceous (dark-walled) fungi) and keratomycosis (eye infection). In the southwestern United States, Tetraploa is abundant in sediments due to plant tissue in freshwater marshes. Culture - Potato dextrose agar or Malt extract agar, 20° – 25°C, 7 – 10 days.
