Sordaria
Phonetic: Sore-dair’-ee-uh
Sordaria is a widespread fungus commonly found on seeds, soils, and dung. This genus is naturally auxotrophic, or nutritionally dependant, therefore it is dependant on external sources of certain vitamins and must get these from the surrounding environment. Sordaria is closely related to Neurospora, Podospora, Gelasinospora, and Melanospora. There are no reports of infections or no known allergens. Culture - Potato dextrose agar, 20° – 25°C, 7 – 10 days.
