Phomopsis
Phonetic: Foam-op-sis
Phomopsis is a widespread fungus found throughout temperate to tropical to subtropical areas as an opportunistic plant pathogen. Phomopsis has been known to be parasitic on bark, wood, leaves and fruits of trees and shrubs including papaya, coconut, apple, pear, cucumber, and sweet potato. It has also been found on twigs of Ginko bilboa. Phomopsis is considered to be a mycoherbicide (host-specific plant pathogenic fungi used to control weeds in crops). Phomopsis conidia are disseminated during rainy periods and then discharged and deposited on host surfaces, but requires a wound to infect. Culture - Potato dextrose agar or Malt extract agar, 20° – 25°C, 7 – 10 days
