Stachylidium is a widespread mitosporic fungus found on dead or decaying wood and other plant debris such as herbaceous stems and branches. Mostly found in tropical areas this fungus has been labeled as a saprophyte. This wound-invading fungus has been associated with cigar-end rot of banana, canker wood of sycamore seed orchard, and it also been known to attack pineapple and tea plants. Stachylidium is also commonly found in problem facilities, and has been known to produce allergic reactions or sensory irritations. The conidia are 4.5-6.3 x 1.8-2.3 um with the end walls slightly thicker than the lateral walls. Culture - Potato dextrose agar, 20° – 25°C, 7 – 10 days.
